С самого детства юного Ральфа Лифшица настоящая фамилия мастера привлекала богатая жизнь, в которой было место роскоши и утончённому вкусу. Начавший свой творческий путь с небольшой марки модных галстуков Лорен вскоре совершил настоящую революцию в фэшн-мире, объединив понятия удобства и роскоши в единую концепцию.
Идея документального фильма родилась около 10 лет назад, когда в год летнего юбилея бренда Ральф Лорен начал задумываться о сохранении истории марки и продвижении её философии. Режиссёром проекта была выбрана Сьюзен Лейси, известная такими документальными картинами, как «Спилберг», «Леонард Бернстайн, дотянуться до ноты», «Джейн Фонда: Жизнь в пяти актах».
